William F. Gigray, III was awarded the 2019 Idaho State Bar Distinguished Lawyer Award, the state bar’s highest recognition. This award is presented annually to attorneys “who have exhibited exemplary conduct, professionalism, and many years of dedicated service to the legal profession and the citizens of Idaho.” Bill was introduced and presented the award by his colleague Terry White, who noted Bill’s commitment to the rule of law and due process – concepts ever more important today.
In 2006, Bill was awarded the Idaho State Bar Professionalism Award for his admirable embodiment of professional courtesy throughout the duration of his career. Bill expressed his belief that professionalism as a virtue is grounded in respect for each other and the rule of law he and his legal peers serve. Those sentiments, and his beliefs, have not changed. He states: “How we conduct ourselves in this practice toward our clients, with the people we deal with on behalf our clients, and with each other matters a great deal. Without professionalism, there is no profession.”
Bill is a Caldwell native with deep roots in the community and has practiced law in Canyon County for over forty-five years. The award profile noted his many achievements, including long service as the attorney for many local government entities, leadership and activity in the Third District Bar and Idaho Trial Lawyers Association, organization and service for the Caldwell Foundation for Educational Opportunity which provides scholarships to Caldwell High School students, and service on the Foundation for Ada/Canyon Trail Systems (FACTS).
