On November 12th, 2014, municipal law attorney, Matt Johnson, presented at the Idaho School Board’s Annual Convention in Boise, Idaho. Matt presented valuable information to Board members, District Clerks and Education Professionals entitled Records Policies – Custody, Classification, and Maintenance of Records.
Matt’s presentation focused on the elements of school district records policies. Matt discussed Idaho Public Records law and federal laws (FERPA-Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act) that impact records policies. Additionally, Matt directed his audience to the purposes and goals of records policy and the power authorizing school districts to adopt records policy. Matt then focused on policy guidelines, suggestions and ideas concerning public records requests and the classification, custody and maintenance (including proper destruction) of records.
Matt serves as the primary city attorney for the City of Melba and the City of Cascade, and also assists with legal counseling for cities, school districts, fire districts and irrigation districts represented by White Peterson. Matt is knowledgeable in matters relating to zoning and land use, water law, and environmental issues.
